The University of Rochester Press welcomes manuscripts in its long-running series Rochester Studies in African History and the Diaspora, a leading outlet for scholarship in the field.
Under the leadership of series editor Toyin Falola, the series advisory board, consisting of distinguished scholars from leading universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, seeks manuscripts that deal with aspects of African history in a variety of challenging ways, whether new or traditional. The editors seek a mix of titles and formats, ranging from studies by a single author to edited collections treating a given theoretical or empirical perspective on African or diasporic history from differing points of view.
Topics may lie in any area of Africa’s history, broadly defined to include economic, political, or social history, and other specialties. The editors are particularly interested in projects that bear upon the following: economic activities of peoples or regions during the colonial period; effects of political turmoil upon the social and economic diaspora of the post-colonial period; economic development modeling for Africa; and historiographical examinations of particular regions. The editors also encourage projects that combine historical and literary or cultural studies approaches, and that focus on the crucial topics of gender, race, and identity.
To submit an appropriate project for consideration, please fill out and send to the series editor the University of Rochester Press proposal form, available here.The form should be accompanied by the following:
1) A brief but detailed synopsis of the work, outlining its original contribution to the existing literature; 2) An abstract of approximately 200 words, summarizing the work’s content; 3) A table of contents and, if possible, one or two representative sample chapters; 4) An updated CV for the author or editor of the volume.
