Eastman/Rochester Studies in Ethnomusicology

The University of Rochester Press welcomes manuscripts in its series, Eastman/Rochester Studies in Ethnomusicology. The series editors and advisory board seek new and original manuscripts, primarily based on the anthropological method of ethnographic fieldwork, that examine intersections between contemporary musical practices of all kinds and their social and cultural contexts. Although authors working in all areas of ethnomusicology are encouraged to submit their work, we especially seek monographs and edited collections in two areas:

  1. Studies that illuminate the relationship between music, gender, and sexuality
  2. Studies in African music, dance, and performance practice

To submit an appropriate project for consideration, please send a formal proposal or prospectus to series editors Ellen Koskoff and Damascus Kafumbe. The proposal should include: 1) a brief but detailed synopsis of the work, outlining its intended contribution to the existing literature; 2) an abstract of 300 words or less, summarizing the work’s content; 3) a complete table of contents and one or two sample chapters; 4) an updated CV.
