Tamesis specialises in the publication of scholarly monographs, critical editions, and translations relating to the literature, history, art, culture, and philology of the Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan-speaking worlds. Tamesis Companion volumes offer an accessible introduction in English to a particular writer or field of study within the province of Hispanic Studies.
Now a major part of Boydell & Brewer’s portfolio, Tamesis Books was founded in 1963 by the late J. E. Varey, Emeritus Professor of Spanish at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London, a leading authority on Spanish Golden Age drama. From the outset he was ably assisted by Professor Alan Deyermond, also of Queen Mary and Westfield, who meticulously supervised the medieval titles until his death in 2009.
The majority of its current publications, including the ‘Companion’ volumes, appear in the Monografías series of critical studies, covering a wide range of topics from the middle ages to the present day, from Cervantes to Lorca. Meanwhile, the Textos series provides authoritative, annotated editions of texts in this area.
