Pubns Manchester Centre for Anglo-Saxon Studies
The University of Manchester has in its history a long list of distinguished scholars whose principal interests have been in Anglo-Saxon studies.
In 1984, when there was a considerable group of scholars interested in this area, the Centre was founded under the direction of Professor Donald Scragg, with the aim of promoting research into all aspects of the life and culture of England before the Norman Conquest.
Since 1984, the Centre has grown both in the number and breadth of its activities. As well as a seminar programme which runs throughout the year, MANCASS also organises a popular and well regarded Easter Conference, at which established and early career scholars can present research and exchange ideas on the pre-1066 world.
