We are proud to be an employee owned business. Being employee owned allows us to maintain our independence in a sector increasingly dominated by a few large players. Our independence, in turn, allows us to stay focused on our authors, the researchers who read their work and the librarians who support those readers.

What does it mean to be employee owned?

Employee ownership (EO) is when employees have a say and a stake in the company they work for. There are many different EO models, but for us, it means that there are no external shareholders; shares in the company are held by an Employee Ownership Trust, which is mandated to act on the employees’ behalf, and empowered to scrutinise the company’s management as their representative.
