Boydell & Brewer’s US office typically attends 10-12 conferences each year. Usually that includes a book exhibit; occasionally staff may attend in a purely editorial capacity without an exhibit. Another 150 or so titles each year are sent to additional conferences attended on our behalf by third-party exhibitors.
Boydell & Brewer’s UK office typically attends around 20 conferences a year. Usually that includes a book exhibit; occasionally staff may attend in a purely editorial capacity without an exhibit.
What does the Marketing Department do?
We organize the press’s attendance at the conference, particularly the book exhibit. For online conferences, we coordinate with whatever virtual book exhibit options are available.
We create posters and design price lists, catalogues, signs, calls for manuscripts, and other marketing collateral.
Where possible, we run raffles for books and giveaway items.
Throughout the conference, we highlight the event, our presence, our books, and photos from our booth on social media.
• Are you attending a conference? Are you on a panel? Is there a panel on your book? Request a discount flyer to distribute. Please give us three weeks’ advance notice before the date of your departure.
• Check to see if we are attending! If so:
• Follow us on social media and share our posts, or tag us in yours.
• Stop by the booth and say hi! We’d love to post a picture of you with your book on social media, and will tag you if we can.
Gratis Copies for Conferences, Panel Discussions, etc.
As previously noted in this document, we are not able to guarantee unlimited gratis hard copies. If your book is slated to be the subject of a conference panel, lecture, or another event, please contact us early in the planning stages. We can often provide free ebooks, which we will be happy to do. Otherwise, we may offer a steep discount on the print version of the book.
