- Description
Theatre archives from Madrid hospitals, containing detailed documents on the lateral boxes of the playhouses.
This book forms the second part of a two-volume edition of the surviving theatrical documentation from the old Madrid Hospital archives. The playhouses which the Hospitals had founded around 1580, the Cruz and the Principe, were municipially run from the 1630s, but the Hospitals themselves, still the owners, continued to recieve theatre income and kept accounts and records containing important new information which, complements the municipal documentationpublished on earlier volumes in the series. Of particular value is a series of detailed notarial documents on the lateral boxes of the playhouses. The volume includes an extensive introduction and an index of names and places.
